Created for both musical use and sound design, Violence features an unprecedented deconstruction of a solo violin recorded from numerous angles: bowed, scraped, hit, plucked, played with mallets, chopsticks, guitar picks, and wet fingers. Then the sound design was repitched, layered, and post-processed through an array of unusual tools to produce sounds unlike any found in other virtual instruments. More than eighty unique patches were designed, each with a custom set of scripted knobs and controls all conveniently organized into four categories of sounds: Drum Kits, Melodic, Pads and Sound Effects, and Tempo-Synced.

 

The inspiration for Violence came from the influential American composer John Cage, whose extensive experiments with prepared piano yielded new timbres and effects. What Cage did on the piano, Violence brings to the violin: a new and unorthodox approach to a traditional instrument, yielding amazing and fresh new instruments, textures, and sound design elements. Violence combines physical alterations with digital manipulations for a sound that straddles acoustic and electronic realms.

 

Violence is powered by the industry-leading Kontakt engine. It is compatible with VST, AudioUnit, and RTAS (Pro Tools 7 & 8) plug-in formats allowing it to work seamlessly within any major sequencer, in addition to standalone use.

 

Violence features a variety of controls which are custom-designed for each of its 82 instruments. The instruments are subdivided into four major category folders:
-Drum Kits
-Melodic
-Pads and SFX
-Tempo Synced

Depending on the instrument loaded, appropriate knobs for tweaking the instrument appear in the interface, such as:
-Quantization
-Envelope controls (attack and release)
-Stereo spread
-Lopass and hipass filters
-Layer blend controls
-Effects (reverb, delay, drive, flanger, vibrato, rotator, wobble, and others)
-Autopan control
-Repeater

Violence is compatible with both Macintosh and Windows platforms and includes the standalone Kontakt Player 4 application as well as AudioUnit, VST, and RTAS plug-ins. All of these versions ship in the same box.

The Macintosh version requires an Intel Core Duo 1.66GHz or faster, 2GB of RAM, a DVD drive, and OS 10.5.x or higher. For optimum performance, Vir2 Instruments recommends a 2.0GHz processor or faster. The library requires 1GB of free hard drive space.

The Windows version requires a processor speed of 1.4gHz or higher (Pentium or Athlon XP), 2GB of RAM, a DVD drive, and Windows XP SP2 (32-bit) or Windows Vista or Windows 7 (32- or 64-bit). For optimum performance, Vir2 Instruments recommends a 2.0GHz processor or faster. The library requires 1GB of free hard drive space.

Violence will run in standalone mode and is also compatible with every major sequencing package in the world, including but not limited to: Apple Logic and GarageBand, MOTU Digital Performer, Digidesign Pro Tools 7 & 8 (TDM, LE, and M-Powered), Steinberg Cubase and Nuendo, Ableton Live, and more.
